I teach in a multi-age classroom in an urban, public Montessori school. My students range in age from 4-6 years old and come from very diverse backgrounds. This is the first time many of the students have been in a school setting, so it is important to make their experience at a school a positive one! Throughout the day, the students work in small groups with the teacher or individually on their own materials.
"The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child's own natural desire to learn." -Maria Montessori
The wide range of topics covered in the Scholastic magazines will give my kindergarten students a better understanding of science, social studies, and reading topics. They will learn that reading can be both fun and informative. Each month has new topics that relate to events that happen during that specific month.
I want my students to be lifelong readers.
The weekly magazines have activities that will help increase my students' comprehension skills. Once we finish the magazines each week, the students can take them home to read to their parents. It will be a great conversation starter at home for parents to know something their child is working on in school.
