Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Fourth grade students shouldn't think that South America is a country in Africa or ignore the current events that are shaping their world. If we want to raise critical thinkers and problem solvers, we need to teach them how to find information, reflect, and debate. We need a kid-friendly newspaper.

My public school struggles to offer the best to our kids who come from economically disadvantaged families.

75% of our students are African American alongside with Latin and Asian children. This situation offers unlimited opportunities to learn tolerance and team work while discovering new perspectives. However, our school and our families can't afford the extra resources we need to support academic knowledge.

My Project

With the weekly Scholastic Magazines, we would be able to address some important current events and issues. This activity will reinforce reading comprehension and speaking skills as well as one crucial 21st century skill: critical thinking. This age-appropriate literature attracts students and motivate them to read because it relates to real-life and topics that they can also discuss with their family. They would be able to debate as a whole class or in small groups. Listening to them argue using evidence to prove their perspective, I see future politicians, lawyers, and activists...

I want to thank you in advance for your support.

Children will love to read (and re-read) this magazine you will offer them as this new literature will open a window onto their world. Your kind donation will definitely making a difference!
