My Students
My students are a great bunch! They come from diverse backgrounds, are mostly from low-income households and do not have the opportunity to help supply the classroom with materials or tools that we may need to learn and increase engagement. There are many items our classroom could use that would promote a more structured learning environment and help students succeed. Many students are performing below their expected grade level requirements and would benefit from these items and tools to aid in their daily learning activities. Please help us out, thank you!
My Project
There are many events happening in the world today. Having access to Scholastic magazine on a weekly basis will help my students keep up on current events, while being able to read about them at their appropriate reading level. This magazine provides them with different types of articles, photos and graphics to help their understanding, opening up discussions about sharing their opinions on topics, promoting writing, and testing their knowledge on different topics. The articles incorporate important or unfamiliar vocabulary and allows students to practice their close reading skills. There is also accompanying digital tools that help to deepen their understanding! My students in the past have loved gaining knowledge through these articles and I would love to continue to use them with my incoming students!
