This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We have 15 boys and 11 girls full of energy and eager to learn in our third grade classroom. More than half of the students are reading below grade level and don’t like to reading independently. We have found that reading nonfiction sparks their interest and holds their interest in reading. Magazines with colorful pages and filled with interesting facts, will keep them focused while learning. There is also an online support for the students to use with the magazines.

My Project

These magazines will spark the students’ interest in reading, because they are very interested in animals, plants and the world around them. They will also be able to read something that keeps them focused with colored pictures, graphs and maps. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these magazines will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students struggle with independent reading, and this project will help enrich their experiences with the printed word. These magazines have lessons that follow the Common Core Standards to help with comprehension and fluency. The magazines will also give them experiences that they won’t be able to have without them.
