My Students

My kids are awesome! We are a large public urban high school, grades 9-12, with about 1400 kids. The student body is awesomely diverse in part because our high school serves as the ESL center for Pittsburgh Public Schools.

My classroom is an inclusion classroom which has a variety of learners including English language learners, autistic support students, students with learning disabilities and other special education needs all in one room.

I've found their uniqueness makes my art class even more amazing because of the myriad of backgrounds, needs, and experiences from which they pull their inspiration to make art!

My Project

The Scholastic Art magazine will give my students the opportunity to be successful and interested readers. These easy-to-read and graphic materials will excite and hold the interest of my students. The magazines include art history, contemporary artists, and student artists they can relate to. This fresh resource will help me not only teach art history but inspire my students to be creative and excited readers.

These magazines will help my students by giving them an outside resource about the fine arts.

Scholastic Art magazine will show my students what is available to them, give them new ideas to ponder and inspire artistic creativity. My students yearn for an artistic outlet and information. I feel these magazines will provide just that.
