This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Inquiring minds want to know! Help my first grade students have easy access to resources that will enhance, enrich, and support our core curriculum.
I teach at a gifted/high ability magnet where the criteria for students to be accepted to the program is that they are working two years above grade level in all academic areas.
We work at an accelerated pace and I am constantly looking for ways to differentiate our core curriculum to offer students a challenge.
My Project
My students will benefit from the books that I am requesting because they reinforce and enhance our Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science content standards. Having these books in our classroom will allow students to easily access information when they are conducting independent research projects. The books will also allow for differentiation of our core curriculum, encouraging each student to find answers to questions they have generated.
Having these books readily available in our classroom will allow students to learn the skills of conducting independent research projects.
In doing so, it will give students a strong foundation of how to use nonfiction resources, where to look for information, and how to put it in their own words. They will acquire skills of life-long learners, having sources readily available to them.
