Saying NO to the Summer Reading Slide

Help me give my students books to read over the summer so that they can continue to build the literacy skills that we have been developing all year.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The K-1 students that I work with are absolutely amazing! The students are like sponges, they soak up every bit of learning. Additionally, the Swansboro team has made it our mission to ensure effective practices and resources are put into place to propel student learning by enhancing the reading levels and reading ability of our students.

Although the students have made great strides in developing and enhancing their reading skills, we still have a ways to go and we do not want the summer reading slide to curtail the progress that the students have made .

My Project

The K-1 students at Swansboro will participate in our school's summer reading program. The summer reading program will create a partnership between the home and the school to ensure that students' progress is not hindered over the summer months. Additionally, we want to make sure that we are promoting literacy rich homes.

The summer reading program will allow students to participate in literacy activities, that involve reading, writing, speaking and listening, at home and during our summer reading workshops at school.

The Swansboro team has constructed great projects for the students to complete, and will be opening up our school for a few parent/student workshops in order to assist students with understanding and completing the activities.
