Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a librarian in a suburban school in Texas. I am excited because this is my first year at a new school and my first year as a librarian! There are about six hundred students from Pre-K to fifth grade at this Title I school. 85% of the students are Hispanic and we have a 22% mobility rate.

We are proud of how hard the children work and want them to be successful!

Our school's mission is to provide the appropriate tools and strategies to ensure the success of every child.

My Project

Ladybugs, butterflies, and praying mantises will be our new addition to the library! Students will have the opportunity to come to the library and watch the life cycle of insects! I have to say that the life cycle of the butterfly is my favorite. I enjoy watching the caterpillars grow, get so big, and turn into a chrysalis. Then, I am on pins and needles waiting for them to come out of the chrysalis to be a painted lady butterfly. I want to share this amazing experience with my library students! They will learn so much about science and they'll visit me more in the library too. A praying mantis egg sac will amaze them because we will actually sew it with a thread and needle to a twig in its home. Students will love to see the hundreds of baby praying mantises come out. We have a wonderful garden to release them in. I will be able to teach my students about organic gardening with our ladybugs. I've also requested books about insects, so students can read about these great insect opportunities. I love bringing science into the library. We would greatly appreciate your support and generosity!
