My Students
Intelligent, creative, independent, studious, and a little whacky. These are words I would use to describe the students at our NYC public high school.
Our students walk into the classroom every single day with a desire and passion to investigate, collaborate, and discover all they can before the final bell rings.
They are an inspiring bunch who are not afraid to ask questions and take risks. Mature beyond their years, they recognize the importance of every educational opportunity set before them and always strive to do their best at every turn. It's for these reasons that they deserve every chance to succeed.
My Project
I Like Ike! Free Angela! Buy Liberty Bonds! These sayings have been etched into every Americans' psyche since they first appeared on tiny bits of metal attached to a safety pin. Buttons are an essential part of our political process and can say so much in such a tiny package.
My US History & Government classes study the role these tiny treasures play in our political system.
Through looking at the plethora of buttons in our classroom collection, students are able to see the evolution of elections and protest movements while holding a small piece of history in their hands.
Now its time for my students to get involved in the process themselves! These button makers will enable my students to design and make their own political and protest buttons. Students will have a unique opportunity to harness their creativity and make their voice heard in an authentic way!
