Although our school is located in the center of the Silicon Valley, about 50% of our students are socio-economically disadvantaged, about 25% are English language learners, and about 50% qualify for free and reduced price lunches. Less than 50% of the parents have had some college or graduated from college.
My students are full of energy, creativity, passion, perseverance, and diversity.
Working with middle school students keeps me up with the latest clothing, music, and video game trends. I am forced to be a lifelong learner when trying to incorporate their interests into my classroom.
My Project
Drawing in science is not the same as drawing in art. Scientific sketching is for recording observations and communicating information. In this time of distance learning, it is often difficult to draw on a computer screen. With a drawing tablet, the teacher can more accurately model how to properly create scientific drawings for students.
A drawing tablet at home could act like a smart board in a classroom, keeping a digital record of the teacher’s handwritten work.
Students will also be able to receive better feedback on assignment turned in as teachers can annotate more easily with a tablet instead of just typed comments.
As teachers are needing to redesign their curriculum, access to the work of other seasoned teachers though Teachers Pay Teachers is invaluable. This is a time that though we are alone at home, we are connected through technology. Harnessing the power of available resources instead of reinventing the wheel will enhance learning.
