My Students
Our school has a long history embedded in the community we serve. Students are excited to attend a school where many of their parents and even grandparents went before them. I have an exciting opportunity to continue building a STEAM Resource program as we enter year 2! When you walk into my classroom you won't see students sitting in desks diligently taking notes. Instead, you'll see students brainstorming ideas, drawing images, building models, testing their solution, and more! I work with all the students in my building, kindergarten through fifth grade.
My students are spunky, inquisitive, and hardworking.
"I never knew school could be this fun!" a student shouted to a group member as they were working on a STEAM project. It is moments like these that push me to ensure that my students always have opportunities for hands-on, real-life learning experiences. My students are not defined by their labels, such as gifted, ADHD, ADD, or on grade-level. Instead, they step into my classroom to show off their talents and expand their imagination. It is wonderful donors, like yourself, that can help me to provide these experiences to our youngest learners!
My Project
As I have grown my STEAM program, it has been my goal to get students learning through hands-on experiences. While we have been in a virtual learning environment, my older students have begun to dive deeper into coding, specifically with the computer-based program called Scratch. This program uses block-based coding to teaching students cause and effect relationships with coding.
When we transition back to a hybrid learning environment, I want my students to learn about coding through real-world experiences, which the Tello drones will do.
Students will operate the Tello drones using an iPad, which they will code using Scratch. Therefore, they will get to translate their computer programming skills to coding and flying drones. These drones can also take pictures and videos, which will add another dimension of learning as we discuss perspectives in architecture, surveying the landscape of our school, and more. I cannot wait to provide my students with another opportunity to see a STEAM career in action because without the experience, they will never know if this is something that want to pursue in the future. I hope you choose to partner with us on this adventure!
