This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a high-poverty school with a high percentage of English as Second Language students and students with exceptional needs. Our kiddos work hard to learn the basics and are pushed to meet the expectations given to them.

My kiddos are from a rural, high poverty school in Indiana.

Like most middle schoolers, our kiddos struggle to discover themselves and their place in the world around them. Being a part of the newspaper helps them grow more than just academically. It challenges kiddos to grow socially and work in a team. It also pushes them to learn at a higher level.

My Project

Currently, my newspaper staff is either sharing a camera with the yearbook staff or using cell phones to capture photos. Not all students have a quality cell phone to be able to take awesome pictures or even a phone at all. This limits their abilities to participate in all newspaper activities. All students should be able participate and not be limited due to lack of supplies.

When we share with yearbook, there are times activities are missed.

This Is not ideal for either group as we all want to showcase our school pride! A camera of our own would be a huge benefit to our growing program!
