My Students
In today's schools, it is very important for students to feel needed and to feel like what they do matters. We allow students in the 5th grade to help with the yearbook but it is very difficult to take quality photos with the equipment we have available.
Our students come from a variety of backgrounds, several of which are economically challenged.
They are very caring and protective of their fellow classmates, especially those that have grown up through the years together. Our school is located close the our state capitol in the downtown area of West Virginia.
My Project
Being part of the decision making process allows our students to be more creative and have more motivation to come to school. The students that apply to be yearbook assistants are normally not the top of the class. With these two new cameras, students will be able to take pictures of their fellow classmates and the rest of the school during special events and daily activities. Then, the students will help with the decision making process of putting the yearbook together.
Having an activity like yearbook committee in elementary school gives students a chance for responsibility.
That is a crucial life skill to provide students with before heading to middle school. I also just want to give my students an opportunity to find something that they have a passion for and enjoy doing.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
