My Project

My 2nd graders recently started a science unit on plants, animals, and their habitats. As we continue to learn about plants, I want to provide my students the opportunity to create mini terrariums and start a classroom "garden" of small plants. Many students shared that they have never planted anything before. They love looking at photographs of plants and are fascinated with the few live plants that I have brought into class. I would love to give my 2nd graders the gift of plants that they learn to care for in class, and take home at the end of the school year.

Through this project, hands-on experience in designing an ocean-themed terrarium will help foster their curiosity, creativity, and love for nature.

Our school is located on a very windy hill above the delta, so students often see trash caught in the bushes and plants surrounding our campus. We talk about the connection between the land and ocean, and they are enthusiastic to help keep our planet healthy! A few of my students started an "Earth Day Club" to help pick up the litter that gets caught in plants. They would love to have "litter pickers" to help with their clean-up efforts. Caring for their own sunflower plants, from seed to sprout, will also help develop empathy and responsibility to care for our environment. Your support will help us to bloom and grow!
