This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Aspiring musicians need instruments! I am a middle school band director in a high-need community. Our students love music and have a strong desire to participate in the band, unfortunately we don't have enough instruments to go around.
The biggest obstacle my students have is the financial burden of renting and purchasing instruments. I have a list of students who want to participate in the band and simply cannot afford the cost. The alto saxophone is an instrument that my students want to play. They love the sound of the saxophone. Unfortunately the saxophone is one of the more expensive instruments to play. The school has a few alto's but they are already being loaned to other students.
Having an additional saxophone will allow our band to grow and fulfill the musical dreams of another student. My students will be extremely grateful for the donation of this instrument. This alto saxophone will give another child the experience of playing in a band and belonging to a group.
You will make it possible for a student to learn how to play a musical instrument. This is a life long skill. They will be able to play music through high school and college and maybe even become a music educator. You will help make their musical dreams come true.
