My Students
Did you know that 70% of what adults learn about the environment they learn from their children? That makes our kids pretty powerful teachers. I want to provide them with the knowledge they need to educate those around them.
I teach an amazing class of third graders in central Illinois. We are a diverse public school and pride ourselves on having 45+ languages spoken by our families in the home. Each student in class has their own unique interests but reading is important to all of them. We see these books as one of the greatest gifts we can receive.
My Project
These resources will be the foundation for a unit on environmental education. These books, spanning multiple levels, offer an amazing amount of information on the environment and can meet the individual needs of our many students. We will be able to use these books during our reading class (as we study nonfiction text features), during science, and during our choice reading time for those who take a particular liking to the topic.
It seems that most people, both young and old, do not have a very good understanding of environmental issues. It is time that we change that before it is too late. We want to make a positive difference in the world.
