Saving Plants, Saving People

Help me give my students a virtual field trip to learn about ecosystems while learning about the importance of native plants and their importance in our communities.

My Students

Our school is located approximately 30 minutes from Philadelphia. My classroom this year is a diverse group of students from varying backgrounds and abilities. While we have been hybrid most of this year due to COVID, many have not attended school at all. Interactions with one another have been very limited.

My Project

Students will virtually travel to Hawaii. This region is rich with biodiversity and also the risk of extinction. Students will explore gardens focusing on the importance of native plants and the potential destruction from introduced plants that are invasive to the ecosystem.

This trip will develop and enrich second graders knowledge of ecosystems and how to practice conservation live with an expert.

This will inspire students to explore ways that they can be responsible for their ecosystems as children and for the future. This trip will be a direct connection to their science unit on plants.
