This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 20 - 3rd Grade students in a higher poverty area. They are willing to learn and so what they can with the limited resources they have been given or have at their homes.

These students are wonderful and dedicated to making sure they do their best.

But for some of my students, long-distance learning has taken a toll on their mental health. I wish I could be next to them, helping them through the process. I miss them dearly and can't wait to reconnect with them in person at a later date.

My Project

We as teachers are currently teaching students from a distance. As the world has made some drastic changes in public education, students have been trying to cope with the new ways of life. Students were already struggling with mental health so I am doing this project to help combat that and give them a little ease.

Mental health is a serious topic.

Our students have been introduced to magnetic putty which can ease nerves and allow stress relief. I have also asked for chalk and notebook so my students can find another way to let out their stress. It may be by writing stories or a song or two, or just coloring on the sidewalk.

The last two items were somewhat educational. I asked for Zombie Goldfish, which is a book that my students will enjoy reading in their free time. I also asked for flashcards (all properties) of math, so that they have a chance to learn all their facts (and teach younger siblings) through the end of the year and into the summer.
