Sixth grade students are the most amazing humans ever! I am fortunate to be able to guide, teach, and be taught by these kiddos.
In the science classroom, we have intelligent conversations, work hard on problem solving, and learn about habits and attitudes that will have an impact on them well beyond the classroom.
They are so flexible and eager to learn more than what is initially presented to them.
The kiddos are willing to help and work with each other and they have learned to self-manage making any lab work or projects more successful as they have more responsibility within each of these settings.
Overall the students have morphed into a community of learners that will benefit them in whatever role they choose after their school job is ended.
My Project
The study of ecosystems and more specifically the interactions of organism within that ecosystems are crucial for students to study as it shows how everything is interdependent and how small changes can have a major impact on the organism.
As the students read through the book, Sea Otter Heroes, they can develop an understanding of how ecosystems ebb and flow and how research can show surprising and unexpected results.
Students love to read books, and this is a great way to support their love of reading while learning about ecosystems as a result of a scientific study and the impacts of that study.
