My Students
I teach an amazing group of 1st grade students. We are a culturally diverse school with most of the students being English language learners. Despite their challenges, they are very inquisitive and eager to learn.
My school is a Title I school which means most students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.
We strive to meet all of their needs as they strive for academic excellence. Their tenacity to learn encourages me to create a fun learning environment so they are actively engaged in learning every day.
My Project
In honor of Earth Day my students will be engaged in several activities where they will learn how they can make a difference in protecting our earth. The books will help students learn about helping the earth by reducing, reusing, and recycling. They will also learn about the importance of bees to our ecosystem.
“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you.
What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” —Jane Goodall
My little scientists will observe and collect data about the radish and milkweed seeds that they will plant. As budding authors they will write about and illustrate the life cycle of a plant. They will also create a mini book that they will share with their families showing how they can contribute to helping protect our environment. Finally, on Earth Day my students will use the chalk to draw positive messages about Earth Day on the sidewalk near our butterfly garden. The milkweed plants will be planted in our butterfly garden and they will take home the radish plant to share with their family. They will receive Earth day stickers to proudly wear at the end of our project. Thank you for considering this project. My students will have fun learning about and particpating on Earth Day.
