Learners are given the freedom to learn at their own pace and in the manner that best facilitates their learning needs. The child gains the confidence to know what they do well, the ability to recognize what they need to improve upon, and the freedom to accomplish their goals.
My learning environment at our Montessori school differs from traditional public education in that it is an environment that allows learning to occur naturally.
This environment can only occur when the teacher knows the learner’s individual strengths and interests thus creating a positive, child-centered atmosphere where the child’s learning is based upon his or her own unique learning style. Children are given the opportunity to take care of themselves, each other, and the environment-gardening, cooking, building, speaking politely, doing social work in the community, etc. My studio's educational philosophy is based on the beliefs and findings of Maria Montessori. Learners develop skills of independence and self-motivation that affect all areas of their lives also have the ability to teach through my own interests and passions to connect learning. Marine biology is a great way to help students learn about science, biology, chemistry, and technology through their own hands!
My Project
Coral reefs are some of the world's unique, beautiful, and beneficial ecosystems on this beautiful Earth. Reefs provide, homes to millions organisms, food, jobs, and income. However, coral reefs are in jeopardy of dying off in the near future; if actions are not taken to protect them. They are threatened by an increasing range of impacts including pollution, invasive species, diseases, bleaching, and global climate change.
If we set back and continue to allow our coral reef systems to decline, it could have a major effect on our life style.
Our classroom is looking to explore more in-depth how to grow coral in our very own studio by adding Kessil coral grow lights to our already established saltwater aquarium. Coral reefs are some of the most biologically rich and economically valuable ecosystems on Earth. They provide food, jobs, income, and protection to billions of people worldwide. However, coral reefs and the magnificent creatures that call them home are in danger of disappearing; if actions are not taken to protect them. The rapid decline and loss of these valuable, ancient, and complex ecosystems have significant social, economic, and environmental consequences in the United States and around the world.
Students will explore and document coral growth with our Kessil energy efficient LED lights while researching on the devastating impact of pollution, global warming, and deterioration of our reef systems. They will record findings on graphs while performing mathematical equations as wells as share on our You Tube Channel their unique discoveries to bring awareness and education to our world.
We have been inspired by the work of Tom’s of Maine in their local community and nationally and would like to partner with you!
