Help me give my students physical learning materials, including dry erase pocket sleeves, that they can use at home and minimize their screen time!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Anna's classroom raised $170

My Students
I teach at a Title I school in an underserved part of San Francisco. Many of the students are children of immigrants or live in the neighborhood's low-income housing development.
Though their families often have fewer resources, that doesn't stop my students' desire and ability to learn and achieve!
My students are curious, funny, sweet kids who can't wait to learn in third-grade. They are eagerly learning cursive, mastering their multiplication facts, reading chapter books, investigating live crayfish in science, making stop-motion videos about Native American life, typing up their stories on Chromebooks, and so much more.
My Project
Now that we are starting off the school year with full-time distance learning, my students will spend a lot of their day in front of a computer or device. Not only is that developmentally inappropriate, think about the strain on children's eyes! Working with paper and pencil wastes a lot of trees and resources, so here's my solution: Dry erase pocket sleeves, in which math tool templates (like a 100s grid, number line, clock, inch grid paper) or reading graphic organizers (like Venn diagrams, cause and effect table) printed on cardstock, will allow students to practice showing their thinking over and over and over again.
I will send these reusable physical materials, along with playing cards, in a learning kit for students to bring home, so that they can practice doing math and solving problems without being glued to a screen the whole time.
They can take a picture of their work and display it on Zoom or on Seesaw so I can give them feedback. As rising 3rd graders, my students still need physical materials to grasp new concepts, while slowly learning how to use digital tools. When we come back to school in-person (eventually), students can continue using the dry erase pocket sleeves to show their work in whole group lessons and in centers.
This will be useful for all students, but especially students with special needs, who may be frustrated with navigating digital tools and need more hands-on learning. Considering this year almost a third of my class have IEPs, please help me give my students a learning experience beyond the screen!
