My Students
My upcoming 8th-grade students have been with me since they were in 5th grade, and this is their last year to jam out in music class!
I love that my students are so diverse in personality, from the naturally studious to the comical geniuses.
They are special to me because they embrace their strong Hispanic culture, and I am always learning from them how to speak the language. My students have grown to perform music on boomwhackers, pianos, ukuleles, and now bucket drums. I already know that some of my students will freak out because they know how much fun it is.
My Project
The noise reduction headphones will allow students to express their playing without worrying about the consequences of hearing loss. Another benefit of wearing noise reduction headphones is that the player will be able to hear themselves, which allows them to adjust any errors or grow confident in knowing they are mastering the musical skills. When the whistle is blowing, the drums are banging, the cowbell is ringing, and the metronome is ticking, students who need clarity in what is musically going on around them will find comfort in reducing the decibels within the classroom using these headphones. When I have the privilege of teaching students with autism, these headphones provide a safe haven for managing sensory overload. Everyone wins!
