What would the world be like without great literature? What will happen if we stop writing it? My students want to be the future novelists and poets of our society, but they need your help.
I teach Language Arts in a critical needs high school.
Due to budget constraints, we can no longer offer an elective class for Creative Writing. Even though they do not earn grades or credit, twenty dedicated ninth graders come to my classroom every morning to write. These young men and women have talent and time, but very limited instructional resources. The love they have for writing is evident as they share their creative ideas with one another. As I listen to their poems and stories, I understand that their potential is vast, but I have no creative writing resources to help them take their writing to the next level.
My Project
The books I request will offer my students tangible support for their talents. With this creative writing library, my students will learn more about crafting stories and poems for specific audiences and about making their ideas marketable. These books will allow me to be a better mentor and will allow my students to grow with "textbooks" that teach to their passion. While each student develops individually, they will encourage each other in the craft of writing. This library will offer us activities to inspire one another and will give gifted young people practical instruction.
We learn about ourselves and our world through writing.
Those who have a distinct talent and interest in literary writing light a path for all readers. With these resources, I can help these twenty students as well as future young adults who share an interest in shaping their world through words. The interest is there. The talent is there. Now we need the resources to save the Creative Writers! Thank you so much for helping us build our creative writing library!
