This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our problem is simple; my students need to save. Most have computers at home without internet, and only a few use email. When we work on projects in our class, they are unable to transfer their files to their home computers to finish. They need help saving.
My students are curious, industrious, and creative.
When they are pushed, they succeed beyond anyone's expectations. My students are English Language Learners in a low income school. They come from dozens of countries and speak half a dozen languages, including, but not limited, to Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog, and Ebo.
I teach a variety of subjects: Math, Science, History, and English. We also use a variety of resources to learn with. Computers, graphic organizers, and art are all utilized to maximize student potential.
My Project
I am requesting 25 flash drives. Each one holds 2 gigabytes of memory, which is enough for students to save work files on. Each drive will be labeled and students will be able to 'check' a drive to take home. This will allow students to work on digital files at their houses, and transfer their work to a school computer to print.
The drives will also be used in the classroom. When students complete work on a computer, they very often have to transfer their files to another computer in order to print. I also keep a digital copy of all work for grading purposes. Having this many drives will give greatly reduce the amount of time it takes to transfer each file to a single hard drive.
Saving students save time!
These simple resources will allow my students to work more productively on computer skills while completing assignments for school. Your small gift will teach my students how to use their home computers for more than Facebook. Thank you.
