My Students

My preschool students all live in a rural community up in the beautiful hills in Massachusetts. For many of these students, this is not only their first experience with school, but for some, it is their first experience being among peers. The school has become an exciting place that helps them be their creative, enthusiastic, exciting selves.

They soak in every experience and return to school the next day, ready and excited to be here.

My Project

There is no denying there are so many tremendous benefits from art! Not only are children learning critical thinking skills and cause-and-effect, but they are also strengthening their fine motor development. For some children, art is a form of expression they don't otherwise have. The benefits list could go on and on! Thanks to DonorsChoose, we recently had the fortune of getting a new easel! Everyone has enjoyed it daily; the only downside is that we are quickly running out of paint.

The thing about teaching preschool: you sometimes hoard art supplies in fear of running out.

Each time I add more paint and I see the supply running down, there is a moment of being upset and fearful of not enough. DonorsChoose has allowed that fear to be lifted. This community has been excellent. This project lists art supplies that will be *used* and loved. Paper to make creations, feathers to use our imaginations, paint to create scenes from memory. In a way, the materials will allow us to expand our creativity so that we cannot right now with little to no materials. All the art materials will be put on what are now bare shelves, making the rest of the year full of carefree art exploration and joy.
