Help me give my students seating options that will enhance their learning. CHAIRS, CHAIRS, CHAIRS.. they need to go! Please help my students this year and down the road be more comfortable when learning.
In my classroom, there are 21 hardworking, bright, caring, energetic students. They come from a variety of backgrounds and family dynamics. At my elementary school, 94% of students fall in as poverty status and 10% of the students are homeless.
The students in my classroom are all capable of learning and are able to set goals, make plans and reach these goals with hard work.
My students come to school everyday because they are motivated and eager to learn. I love all of the different personalities and varying capabilities that walk through my door every morning.
My Project
CHAIRS, CHAIRS, CHAIRS.. they have to go! As a new, first-year teacher, I only have hard, metal chairs available to my students. The chairs are uncomfortable, big and bulky. On a daily basis, I am seeing my students wiggle uncomfortably in their chairs. Not to mention, the 'ding' and 'dong' sound that is constantly being made by students in these metal chairs is extremely distracting.
And for this reason, my students and I are looking for generous donors to Save Our Seating!
I have chosen a wide variety of seating options that I have seen in many classrooms. Therefore, I am certain that these seating options I selected will be successful in my classroom.
1. Sit Spots- The Sit Spots will change the carpet learning experience. My current duck tape line is disappearing as students are picking the tape on a daily basis. With the sit spots, my students will have their own personal space/spot where they will be asked to sit. Students will have their own space where they will be comfortable.
2. Wobble Chairs- The Wobble Chairs will allow my students to move and wiggle without disturbing other students. This chair will transform regular sitting into active sitting. This chair exercises the legs, back and abdominal muscles and provides an outlet for restlessness and extra energy (a must have for my students!).
3. Rocker Chairs- The Rocker Chairs will allow my students to comfortably sit and move on the floor. Students will be more comfortable to learn.
4. Stability Ball- The stability ball will replace some of the big metal chairs. Students will have the opportunity to bounce and wiggle while learning!
5. Plastic Stack Chairs- These will save space and replace many of the big, uncomfortable metal chairs.
