My Students

Save my students' eyes! Our safety goggles are ten years old. They are yellowing, covered with grime that won't wash off, and many have scratches that make it hard to see.

My students live in rural Oregon and attend a public high school.

Despite our shoestring budget, we offer enough AP and dual-credit college courses that a student can finish their entire freshman year of college while enrolled in high school. I teach physical science, biology, and college biology. The safety glasses will be shared with the physics and anatomy and physiology teachers as well.

My Project

I am requesting a class set of 35 pairs of safety glasses. We will wear these any time there is a lab activity. They will be shared between multiple teachers. At least 250 students will use these safety glasses this term. With proper care, the glasses will last for years and be used by thousands of students.

My goggles are so bad that my students do not want to wear them.

This means that I catch them multiple times during the lab with the goggles off. Not only do I not want my students to get hurt, but I am also financially liable if they are injured. My department cannot afford to buy new safety glasses on our own. If I cannot get new safety glasses, I will have to cut back on the number of labs I teach. Please purchase these glasses for my students!
