My third graders started off this school year writing down their hopes and dreams. They have dreams to become veterinarians, doctors, artists, gymnasts, etc. They are filled with the drive to do and be their best, and they all believe that a quality education would get them to achieve this end.
As a Teachers College Reading and Writing Project School, the school immerses the children in a vibrant culture of literacy.
Children can be found reading in the hallways and always carrying a just right book in hand. Not only are children filled with wonder and knowledge as they get lost in a book, children at this developmental age cultivate essential critical thinking and communication skills from a strong literacy foundation that will prepare them to become our future leaders.
My Project
My classroom needs a new rug for the new school year! The classroom rug is where all of the learning occurs during whole group lessons, read alouds, and morning meetings. My current rug has served students well over the years, but it is becoming more and more essential to have a clean rug to start off the new year on the right foot!
The colorful design of the rug will set the tone for an inclusive classroom for my students.
The bright colors invite all of my students to meet in a central meeting spot and know that there is a place for everyone. Most importantly, each square allows for students to have their own personal space so they can comfortably focus on lessons without worrying about distractions.
