Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year I am teaching in an inclusion classroom in the Bronx. An inclusion classroom means that there are general education and special education students together in one classroom. Many of the students in this class have incredible artistic abilities. However, they are not given the opportunity to use these abilities because our school does not have an art program.
In my class we have decided to have "FUN FRIDAY'S", so that the students can have some type of art class. On "Fun Friday's" we do an art activity that is tied into our curriculum or holiday we may be celebrating. Many of the students enjoy "Fun Friday's" because they get to express themselves through art. Art is one form of self-expression, and by not having an art program the students are not getting to express themselves artistically.
I would like to have all new art supplies for my students to use on "Fun Friday's". Many of our art supplies are slowly diminishing and we are having fewer and fewer "Fun Friday's. The students look forward to doing an art project on Friday's and I want to continue this with them. Keeping "Fun Friday's" alive will help with school projects and letting my students to use their artistic abilities.
