My Students

My students are lively little learners. Having them sit down all day while I lecture to them is not an option! My lessons have to be hands-on and have real-world meaning for them to get the most out of it. My students are on the move, not only physically, but also academically!

My students have a love for learning.

They are eager to soak up any and all concepts and skills presented to them, despite the fact that many of them face challenges in their day to day lives. I teach in a high poverty area and most of the students in our population qualify for the free lunch program. Though they face many obstacles, they are defying the odds. I am inspired by them because they come to school with a purpose in mind. They want to learn! Thanks to and the many people who have supported our classroom, this year has proved to be exceptionally exciting! We have explored so many concepts and completed so many projects! Each lesson has proven to be yet another exciting adventure because of all the resources that have been donated to our classroom!

My Project

In my school, we incorporate the Daily 5 reading centers. The library is one of the most frequented centers in the room. Last school year, we were forced to get rid of our couch. Honestly, it had seen better days and we had grown tired of trying to climb our way out of it as it sank in the middle. But we loved our comfy couch for story times. Our library seems to empty without it, but it was for the best.

I would love to surprise my students with a new library sofa on the first day of school!

Now we look to our heroes to help us make our library the comfy place that it used to be. I am requesting an Ektorp sofa from Ikea with a washable slipcover to make our library a more comfortable place to enjoy a good book. It is one of the more affordable sofas and with the convenience of a washable cover, we can't go wrong. Please help me create a library for my students that encourages a love of books and reading! Thank you!
