Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

They are charismatic, dedicated students, and avid readers, as long as they have the right book! They live in a low socioeconomic area, and our school is a Title I school, which means that the majority of our students (in our case, more than 95%) receive free lunch because of their family's income. Our school is also a Spanish dual immersion school. Most of my students are native Spanish speakers and work diligently to develop both their Spanish and English language and literacy skills.

My Project

My scholars are reading tirelessly to reach a school-wide reading goal of 100,000,000 words this year. They're breezing through books, and we need more, especially more books in Spanish. Our school is a Spanish dual immersion school, and students read for pleasure daily, in both English and Spanish.

However, Spanish language books are hard to come by, and my classroom library is suffering from a drought.

More Spanish language books, like the ones I am requesting, will maintain my students' excitement for reading in Spanish. They love browsing through new options in the classroom, and when my students have the opportunity to choose something they really want to read, they develop a sense of ownership for their reading development and are truly invested in their learning.
