Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first grade students are a true example of diversity. All come with a unique story and background that encourages us to learn from one another, create a culture of acceptance and tolerance, and, most importantly, develop a profound sense of community.

My school is a true neighborhood school with most students living within a few mile radius and most within walking distance.

The neighborhood consists of many families of low socioeconomic status and all that this entails. We have an inherent sense of pride in how hard we work to help students achieve. Students truly enjoy coming to a school where they feel loved, cared for, and successful every day.

My Project

The materials I am requesting will help my students stay safe and healthy in the classroom during our hybrid learning experience during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During a global pandemic, it is essential that we practice good hygiene while in the classroom.

This begins with frequent hand washing. We will be using paper towels and antibacterial hand soap several times throughout the school day, and using hand sanitizer in between washings to limit the spread of germs in the classroom. Of course, as we enter the fall season, we anticipate some runny noses that we will need ample tissues to soothe!

While we are seated six feet apart, we are still wearing masks for most of the school day, only taking short breaks for lunch, snack, and periodic "mask breaks." Therefore, we need to have a backup supply of masks in the event a student's mask becomes soiled, lost, or broken. As we are eating lunch and snack in the classroom, as well as hosting Specials teachers, we need a supply of antibacterial wipes to ensure all surfaces are cleaned between transitions, especially before we munch!

By donating to our project, your are enriching our learning experiences during an otherwise trying school year by helping us maintain our health and safety.
