This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a first-year teacher working in a special education Pre-K program, it is very important to have a clean and safe learning environment for all of my students. One of the ways we keep a clean classroom is by washing our hands frequently. Good hand washing is the first line of defense against the spread of many illnesses — from the common cold to more serious infections. Hand washing is also one of the first life skills we teach in our classroom!

Right now, our mobile classroom is not equipped with a handwashing station, and roughly 5 times a day, we have a structured hand-washing routine.

When working with little kids, germs spread quickly!

Our current routine involves walking our students into the main building to access the toilet and for washing their hands. This process becomes tedious as we are washing our hands frequently. This also takes valuable time away from our academic instruction. By having a hand washing station in our room, we will cut down on the time it takes to help our students wash their hands, it will allow our students to become more independent in this skill and will help keep our classroom clean and our students healthy.
