Hello I am a first year Mathematics educator in Brownsville, Texas. I teach 6th grade math to a little over 60 students in a low-income middle school where resources are limited. A large fraction of my students are ELL's and while learning a new language can be challenging, the beauty of numbers is that mathematics is a global language. I incorporate project instruction as much as time allows, and the students respond so well.
My students are brilliant, hardworking, and dedicated and are pushing for a better future.
Many of them are hoping to be first-generation graduates in their families Many of them are becoming fluent bilinguals and with their persistent dedication, they can become anyone they wish. With your help my students will be able to expand their learning through project-based instruction and build a strong foundation of mathematical concepts. The manipulatives I am hoping to bring into my classroom are the tools my students require in improving their skills.
My Project
With students coming back fully face to face, it is my main priority to keep them as safe as possible at all times.
A sanitation station will keep students germ free and with peace of mind.
The thermometers will give us reassurance, the sanitation supplies will be utilized frequently after each student leaves an area.
Some other supplies listed are magnetic white boards in order to transition from chalk to dry erase. Other manipulatives are being ordered to help with face to face instruction. Thank you so much for your donations!
