Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a class with students that have many different learning styles and abilities. I teach at a Title I school with an 83% poverty level. Our school is also a "Community School". My students walk in to class every day full of energy and eager to learn. Legos are extremely popular and a wonderful way to work on creativity and exploration. My school has a STEAM Club Program and I teach with Legos to incorporate this. I would love to be able to add more LEGO kits to my class.
My Project
I truly believe that LEGOs are one of the best educational toys that will help my students learn and sharpen skills within our STEAM Club. The skills children learn from LEGO are important. Research shows that working with LEGOs helps create a fun environment for all students to learn. It also teaches kids to think in three dimensions. LEGOs in the classroom improve literacy skills as our students work with instructions on how to build certain objects. They also help develop problem-solving, organization, and planning skills by constructing these objects. LEGOs improve creativity and enhance critical thinking. Motor development in our students is built as well. Each one of the kits on my list will assist in these areas. The extra pieces will allow them to build beyond the assigned kits I have on the list.
