My Project
Our school serves a diverse population of children aged 3 to 8 who come from various socio-economic backgrounds. Many of our students have limited access to outdoor play spaces and materials, and our sandbox is one of the few opportunities they have to engage in open-ended, unstructured play.
Our early childhood school in NYC has an actual sandbox in our playground, which is a rarity in this city.
Sand play is a crucial activity for our young learners, as it provides them with valuable sensory stimulation and promotes their cognitive, social, and physical development.
Our sandbox has been a beloved feature of our playground for many years, but it has become increasingly difficult to maintain due to the loss of sand over time. We have tried to patch it up, but we know that a full refill is necessary to ensure that our students have a safe and enjoyable experience.
With your help, we can purchase bags of sand to fill our sandbox and create a stimulating sensory play environment for our students. The sand will be high-quality and non-toxic, and we will follow all safety protocols to ensure that it is free of contaminants.
Sand play allows our students to
- Engage in sensory exploration and experimentation
- Develop their fine and gross motor skills
- Build social skills through cooperative play and communication
- Enhance their creativity and imagination through building and sculpting
