My students need a sand and water table with a LEGO grid cover to support their mathematical, scientific, and emotional development!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Landon's classroom raised $885

My Students
I teach at a Title 1 school in West Harlem. My students are bright, motivated, and passionate. Most of my students come from low-income families. Many must endure the stress of homelessness, poverty, divorce, and neighborhood violence.
My students come to school everyday excited for choice time!
This is a special time where they decide what they want to learn about. Children work throughout our classroom sewing, building, and painting. Some of my students have learning disabilities and this is an especially important time in the day where they can learn through hands-on exploration and collaboration with their peers.
My Project
We need a sand and water table for children to use during choice time. We are also asking for an add-on grid cover so children can alternatively use the table as a base for building with legos.
A sand and water table allows for endless possibilities for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) explorations!
Playing with sand and water allows children to explore concepts such as sink and float, properties of matter, cause and effect, volume, and equivalent measurements. Lego play fosters problem solving, spatial and proportional awareness, and supports numerous math and science skills like fractions, composing and decomposing numbers, and the shape and stability of structures.
Furthermore, a sand and water table will promote play and collaboration amongst children! Study after study has affirmed the importance of play in children's physical and mental health. Play helps boost language development, problem solving, risk management, and independent learning skills. Play is also linked to improvements in academic skills and classroom behavior.
More than half of students from low‑income households
