My students need books and experiment kits which will allow them to learn about renewable energy sources in a hands on manner.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Abordo's classroom raised $578

My Students
Our classroom is a place of challenge and discovery! While we live in the most impoverished county in California, our dreams and determination to achieve a brighter future are undimmed. Our little town is both friendly and remarkably beautiful; however, many families struggle financially. As a very small, rural, Title I school, all of our students participate in both the free lunch and free breakfast programs. The wonderful first to fifth grade students who visit my Reading Intervention classroom work diligently to sharpen their reading and writing skills. They eagerly strive to move forward in their academic careers.
My Project
Our children are inheriting a rapidly changing world in which renewable energy sources are becoming increasingly important. Wind energy, solar energy and fuel cells charged by salt water or biological enzymes all present possibilities for both new career paths and a cleaner environment. Your donation will allow us to connect reading with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) projects!
Imagine a room filled with happy children actively engaged in learning!
As we discuss the central question of "What is renewable energy and how can we use it?" students will read non-fiction books on "An Introduction to Renewable Energy Sources" and “ Renewable Energy Sources – Wind, Solar and Hydro Energy”. Next, students will build wind powered cars, transforming solar robots, a salt water fueled car, and a mud powered energy cell. These hands-on STEAM experiments promote the collaboration and imagination. Then, the students will again collaborate to paint a mural displaying how renewable energy might be used in the future. Finally, the students will split into research teams and create Google Slide presentations on their favorite form of renewable energy. These presentations and our mural will be shared with members of their regular classrooms during a special end of unit party. This presentations build the Reading Intervention students' self esteem and confidence in their reading and writing skills.
Won't you please consider supporting our project and allowing my students to build working renewable energy systems and watch renewable energy in action as they sharpen their reading skills? It is because of donations from generous contributors that unique projects like ours are made possible in small, rural schools. We simply couldn't afford to obtain these materials without your help and it is truly appreciated. Thank you for considering our project.
