Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a Title I school, 90% of the student population receive free lunch. The majority of my students come from low-income families and overcome many obstacles just to be successful. They are already at a disadvantage and attend schools with little to no resources to enhance their learning experience. We do not have supplies and resources, but that does not discourage the students from learning.
In fact, these students are determined to succeed despite the challenges they face on a daily basis.
My students form a unique community within our school. They are in a Learning and/or Language Disabilities (LLD) Class for students with mild to moderate, and severe disabilities. In this environment, students learn tolerance for those that are different from themselves while providing age-appropriate role models. I am truly inspired when I watch them learn and grow as a community throughout the school year.
My district has opted to begin the school year virtually. They will need tools to be successful while they are learning from home as well as items that will support social distancing once they return to the classroom.
This year will certainly be different than before!
My Project
My students will use the wireless mouse to help them navigate the various computer programs they have been assigned to while working virtually and the rest of the materials will ensure my students are able to have separate supplies when we return to school face to face.
When we return to the classroom, we will need an Air Purifier in the classroom, a temperature scanner to monitor my students who will also need to have their own set of supplies due to social distancing.
We will be transitioning from virtual to face to face as the metric allows. To prevent the transfer of the COVID virus, it is essential that each student has enough masks for both indoor and outdoor usage.
