My Students
There are 220 students at MES from grades PK to 5. It is a true community school, where 90% of our students are within walking distance to the school. As a result, a strong community relationship has been formed between the school and its community.
85% of students are at the poverty level.
It is a minority-majority school with the three most populous groups being black, Hispanic and white. Many of our students come to school having experienced some sort of traumatic experience. Our students, like all students, need and want to be loved. They thrive with routines and consistency. We provide that for them.
My Project
As we embark on this new journey of hybrid learning, I want to be sure my students feel safe so they are ready to learn. Providing each of my students with an individual box of tissues and hand sanitizer will make them feel more comfortable by not having to share these items with others. They can keep these items with their belonging and will be the only one to use them.
Proper hand washing is a must!
Although I will teach my students how to wash their hands properly, a poster to remind them of the steps will be useful. Also, a timer to be sure they are washing long enough will be a great tool.
With the current pandemic, many students are feeling anxious about returning to school. Providing students with individual fidget toys will help ease their stress and anxiety of being back in the school setting with the state of the world.
