My students need to have a clear sense of how to use the new lab space we are going to have next year. These signs and gloves will help create a safe space.

My Students
OUR SCHOOL IS GETTING A NEW LAB!! One of my highest priorities for the coming year is to help all of our science teachers incorporate more hands on activities and labs in their classes. Our current lab spaces are unsafe, inadequate and more than fifty years old.
My students attend the largest high school in our city and come from a highly diverse range of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
They are hard working, eager to learn, high achieving individuals. Our school is located in a very diverse region of the city and therefore our students speak many different languages and come from many different countries. The school building is over-crowded, under-funded and in considerable need of an overhaul.
My Project
As the students enter the lab they will be greeted with clear signs reminding them of the purpose and importance of various safety features of the new lab. Also, while participating in various chemistry and biology labs the nitrile gloves will protect their hands from harsh chemicals. They will learn to use the space with respect and that it is important to think first about safety before conducting an experiment.
Since lab activities are not utilized as much in our building as they should be right now, due to poor facilities, it is my goal that all of our teachers utilize this new lab, with the new safety equipment, at least once a month.
Since we are getting a newly renovated lab it is important to me that it be a well designed modern lab space that the students and teachers will be proud of and excited about.
I want every detail to show that we have taken great care to make this space a usable space for their students. My students who are required to design and conduct their own experiments will finally have a space that is suitable for conducting that kind of work and I want it to be well organized and have clear signage.
