This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We started taking our students on hiking trips out of the city for the first time last year. There are a lot of logistics involved in doing so, but it's worth the effort.
Seeing students' reactions when they see a caterpillar nest for the first time - or climb a mountain and are amazed at their accomplishment when they look back on the trail - or when they filter water for the first time - is priceless.
I have a passion for outdoor activities and worked to become a Wilderness First Responder a few years ago. This project will help me renew that certification for another two years and extend my ability to lead outdoor experiences for our students on trails and in the backcountry.
