Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my room are very diligent students who are constantly striving to do their very best and to accomplish their goals. Many of them are second language learners and appreciate the benefits of attending a school where academics are of the highest priority. They are always seeking to gain new information and to learn new things. With responsibilities at home that limit their time to explore subjects and to master skills, they appreciate a classroom where they are given the liberty to improve in all subject areas. The more materials in the classroom, which help in this area, the more they will learn and improve in all areas. Our school loves to facilitate learning. As their teacher, I want them to love to learn and have the confidence and self-motivation to strive for their best.
My Project
With the ever-changing environment, now more than ever we need the speed and convenience to meet our students social and emotional state where they are at each moment of the day.
As our school is preparing to open their doors, the social, emotional, and mental health of our students is my top priority.
We need a printer for easy access to sanitized single-use independent materials from Sanford Harmony, our Social Emotional Learning curriculum. Many activities require print materials for students to work with and manipulate, and students are not allowed to share materials due to social distancing. When students in the Communication lesson of Sanford Harmony, they are learning about communication with others and how to communicate their feelings. The lesson calls for students to read aloud a communication "blooper" script with others where they practice their communication skills, work through the correct and incorrect ways of communicating with their peers, and learn empathy through their "bloopers". The program also calls for a communication bloopers game to be printed out (boards and question cards) to allow for a fun practice of communication skills. Having a printer in the room would allow for materials, and copies, to be printed from our SEL curriculum as soon as they are needed without having to leave the classroom. As the teacher, I am the only adult in the classroom during hybrid teaching, I am limited to accessing materials outside of the classroom. This allows students to access materials independently.
