Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am the Case Manager in my amazing middle school. I work daily with kids who experience Chronic Absenteeism, daily life stressors such as financial hardships, food insecurities, and homelessness. Also, many of my students may be involved with outside agencies that nobody would chose to deal with. When my kids come into my office I want them to feel safe and comfortable and the freedom to talk and process their feelings and emotions. The best way to get kids to talk is through food, I always try to keep snacks on hand for midday hunger pains or to take home just incase.
We set goals to improve student attendance and as motivators I offer prizes.
When kids need to take a break it would be nice for them to have a comfortable chair and items to help them use their coping skills.
My students are great, they may need a little more love and attention, but they deserve to be happy and feel safe! They know they will get a snack, not judge, and a break if needed when they come to visit me!
