About My Students

We are the Readers Advisory Committee and we help choose the books for the library. Thanks to the generosity of donors from Donors Choose we have a great school library. Now we want to improve the reading space for all students to enjoy their books. The Readers Advisory Committee are students from all three grades that want to promote reading for all students and teachers by helping our librarian not only in choosing good books but making a great space to read.

We are trying to make a safe place for us to learn and share with each other. We have book clubs, zine workshops, and music time and we want a cozy spot that lets all the students know that this is the safe place to do that and that is different than the maker space.

The library is the heart of our school. This is where we go to learn things we want to learn. The librarian and the Maker Club has made a great maker space but what about those students that want to make other things? Things like books, songs, and zines? We need a specific space for those students to explore and be creative.

In Their Own Words

We have already funded books and books for our book club. We worked with our librarian and other students to figure out what the school wanted. Now we are talking to other students about what kind of safe space they want to read and learn in. We feel really good when we know we have made a positive impact on the heart of our school.

We are the student-led group that will plan the space design, assemble and decorate the space. We have gathered input from our music teacher and classes to find out what everyone wanted and needed to make a great place to play and make music in other places of the school.

This is important to us because we had an idea and wanted to make it happen. We went to our teacher and librarian to see how we could make a safe creative space happen. They gave us the permission and now the rest is up to us. Our school was just remodeled but the rooms are still a little boring (or as our teachers say- sterile) and we want to make it fun and cozy for all.
