This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students attend a Title I school in Pennsylvania and all receive free or reduced-price lunch and breakfast. They attend a typical, inner-city school. Most face serious obstacles before they even walk through the doors in the morning. Our goal is to make our school a safe and loving environment.
Our students come from diverse backgrounds and different countries.
This makes our school pretty special in so many ways. The students all work so hard and are very deserving of this project.
My Project
My students have found a love of books. Unfortunately we don’t have a cozy space to do our reading in. I would love to place a rug in the corner and surround it with curtains and bookshelves to make a little reading nook for them. A few butterfly chairs for them to sit in if they don’t want to lie on the floor would complete the space. The kids can have this as their space instead of being stuck at a desk all day.
Sometimes a soft warm space makes learning that much more enjoyable for my students and I think this space would be perfect.
