Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am hoping to receive assistance with funding to provide a more comfortable setting for students, families, and staff who enter my office. I am looking to get items to be able to create a more home-like organized setting rather than your standard school office.
As a School Social Worker, part of my role is to work with our school community to provide crisis intervention and community resources to name a few.
Many come to me during very vulnerable high-stress moments. I want my office to immediately provide a calming tone from the moment they walk into the door. Previous materials have assisted in providing outlets for those I work with but now I want to focus on the environment directly in the room. Obtaining these materials for the office will enhance comfortability for all that enter. The calm sounds of a fountain, warmer lighting, food and snacks, and furniture that will provide a home-like feel of these things contribute to making the space more of a safe haven during the chaos of a middle school day. Some of the additional items requested are items that the kids are always requesting or hygiene items.
Having as many safe and comforting spaces on campus is what makes a difference for all of the school community. Knowing that there are people and areas that they can turn to has a positive trickle effect on their learning. Students and families alike need to feel comfortable in the environment to be able to open up regarding difficult circumstances that they are enduring. These kids have so much going for them so anything that we can do to make things more comfortable for them would be beneficial in so many ways.
