This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located South East side of Stockton, CA. The majority of our students are low income and live in the housing projects directly in front and or around our school. Free breakfast and lunch is provided for all of our students. This year I am teaching a group of wonderful Transitional Kindergarten students age 4 and 5 from varying background.

One of the major goals in our Transitional Kindergarten class is to build our social emotional development in order to work together to create a safe and engaging learning environment.

My Project

Having a gate will prevent students from leaving the class unexpectedly. This gate prevents them from entering the long corridor and keep them in line of sight. Students needs to be in line of sight for their own safety.

Safety is paramount.

There is another room that is connected to my room. I'm using a small bookcase temporarily to block the students from entering into the storage room. Having a large curtain and tension rod will do a much better job of blocking the view from the kids. This will make sure their attention is focused on the lesson and not some mystery room.

The water cooler and tumbler will provide easy access to water for the students. Currently, they have to enter the storage room and be out of line of sight in order to get water.
