My Students

My students are a culturally and ethnically diverse group that reflects their world today. I have many students of color, as well as students who identify with various genders, as well as those across the financial scale. The percentage of students who receive a free or reduced-price lunch has steadily increased each year while funding for our regular English classes has decreased. My classroom needs have definitely changed over time.

Today's teenage students have been negatively impacted by Covid 19 in many different ways.

Those from more diverse backgrounds and lower SES homes have been especially hard hit.

With the uptick in positive Covid cases and the reintroduction of the need for masking in our classes, in order to provide in-person and hybrid learning, we all need to provide more KN95 masks to be available for students and teachers. Our school was able to provide one disposable N-95 mask per student, but I would like more to be available for my students. I really can't keep up with the demand without help.

My Project

We need more KN95 masks for students and teachers, as these are the best protection against the spread of Covid.

Each student has a Chromebook to use, but these are often broken, and being repaired.

Having a classroom Chromebook available to use in my classroom would surely help those students to complete their work during class. Also, students often forget to 'charge up,' and there are no 'extra' chargers available so having a couple available would be helpful.

Students are coughing and using many tissues during class daily. I can't keep up with the demand on my own.
